Helping build a healthier Iraq.

“Start Small… Start Now”
David Mezher, LCT General Manager,
GE Healthcare Middle East

What they needed:
- The Iraqi Ministry of Health struggled to provide the healthcare resources their citizens urgently needed.
- There was a shortage of 60,000 hospital beds.
- They also faced huge infrastructure challenges and a chronic shortage of trained medical professionals.
How it’s traditionally done:
- Sell medical equipment to hospitals that lack the experience and knowledge to operate it.
How we did it:
Within the four-week deadline, we:
- An interactive, bi-lingual, three-day customer workshop in the region helped the team build a strong working relationship and a deep understanding of the Ministry’s needs.
- Practical objectives were jointly established to help everyone think big and start small.
- We designed metrics that enabled the local team to measure their daily impact on the ground in Baghdad.
- Subject matter experts were recruited to help the core team design the most relevant & most needed solutions.
How it worked out:
- By listening closely to customers pain points and serving those needs better than the competition, our client reached nearly 50% market share in less than two years.
- Hundreds of medical professionals, nurses and engineers have been trained in Iraq.
- The first neo intensive care unit in the country is under construction.
- Based on the results of early tests, the Ministry is planning to scale the efforts across Iraq.
- Our client team has scaled this approach to other developing markets.
